Can someone tell me why the Night Rating requires solo full stop landings and not solo touch and go's for the qualification?

I tell my students that it is a safety issue.
Exactly how far down the runway are they.... do they know how much they have left? It's not usually an issue at Shannon (3Km), but at EGLD with just shy of 700m it's more important!
Not sure if that's anywhere near the real/original reason - but it makes sense to me! That's how I roll....!
