Ten bob a week coming in and a acre of tatties? 1832? I know women that would snap him up now.

I wonder if he got any takers?

13 year old earning a quarter of what the father was earning.

Advert in Farmers' Weekly (allegedly!).

"Farmer seeks wife. Woman must own tractor. If interested, please send photo of tractor."

From Wiki:-
In the Domesday Book Shroton was known as "Sheriff's Town", and in 1261 it received a grant from Henry the Third, enabling it to hold two annual fairs and a weekly market.
The fair is mentioned in Owens book of fairs 1788 under the name Shroton.
"For many years time was dated in this part of Dorset by Shroton Fair. Old men recalled events by the number of months they had happened before or after this event."
However the fair has now "vanished without a trace"

I'll wager Charlie Warren got plenty of offers.
Note that he says he's a labourer, not a land-owner. The potatoes would have been growing on leased land.
There was a huge division between land-owners and non-land-owners in that era.
Non-land-owners made up 95% of the population, the landed gentry owned vast amounts of acreage, and there was a massive wealth discrepancy in the nation between the rich and the poor.
I guess not a lot has changed. The wife-finding systems are different, the land is more evenly divided, but the massive wealth is still held and tightly controlled by the elite few.

If PPRuNe had a personals section, I'm sure we'd see something very similar, i.e. "PPRuNer seeks wife. Woman must own airplane. If interested, please send photo of airplane ."
