Reason for refusal (eyesight/NATS)

I've just received word back from NATS that I have would not be accepted for training due to the fact that my eyesight is outside the limits for gaining a Class 1 medical.
My eyesight is +4.25 and +4.50 and I have no other eye problems (confirmed by my optician and an opthalmic specialist). The CAA website states that +/-5.00 is the limit.
Anyone know why I would have been refused?
Is there any way around this (special circumstances etc.)?

I was going to ask a similar question.

It seems strange that I can get a JAA class one and get my ATPL but I cannot pass a CAA Class one and become an ATCO.

The CAA website says the eyesight requirements are similar to JAA class one but they should be contacted for further information.

I hope someone can explain this (or had this explained to them) - Has anyone asked the CAA already or is it worth me calling them to find out why?

I'm not sure if i'm right or not, but i think the initial criteria are different.

I think the max is +/-3.00 when taking a medical for the first time. I is alowed to deteriorate to +/-5.00 over the years.

To be exactly sure you could contact the medical branch off CAA/SRG at Gatwick.

It could be to do with which element of your eyes is +4.25. If it is an astigmatic prescription then you are outside of the +/-2 dioptre initial standard.
