Hi All,

I am from the UK and have been contacted by Emirates for a couple of ground based positions. I have found various posts on this forum regarding base salary ranges, but most of them are not that recent.

I wanted to ask if anybody could shed any light on what the salary ranges (not including allowances) are for grade 9 and Grade 10 positions.

My understanding is that F/O's are grade 10 and their salary is approx 25,000 AED per month. So I would assume this would be the high side of a grade 10 position.
Apologies if this is not accurate just going off other posts I have read.

Any info appreciated!

Why dont you ask Emirates what they are going to pay you? And if your job is ground based, what has an FOs pay got to do with anything?

Thanks for the friendly welcome and not particularly helpful response :ok:

As far as I am aware, its not regarded as best practice to ask "what are you going to pay me" at the initial stages of applying for a new job. They have not said what the position offers, but they are asking me what my salary requirements are.
My understanding is that Emirates have a range for each grade and therefore I would like to put forward a suggestion that is at the top end of that salary range, without pricing myself out of the equation completely.

To your second point, asking what an FO's pay has got to do with it, well if you read my email, I wanted to find out about grade 10 salary ranges. From what I have read an FO is a grade 10 position and attracts 25k AED, therefore it would be logical to assume that I would need to ask for a salary requirement below 25k.
I wanted to confirm that fact, hence why I am posting here.

OK, to be a little more constructive....

At EK, FO's nominally equate to a grade 9 role with skippers roughly equating grade 10. That is in reality just for allowance levels.

The pilot salaries bear NO resemblance to ground based appointments. You are correct in assuming that they have a banding in which to set a salary however I would suggest that's asking for 25k Dh as a grade 9 may be a little adventurous.

I know a number of grade 9's with a salary band sub 20k.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Flyinthesky:)

That does help! Just wanted to get an idea of where I should be aiming at without going too high or too low. So now I have something to work with.

Cheers.

FO's are Grade FD06. There is no direct correlation, and actually Singleh, sarcasm won't get you far either. Play the game...

Grade 10 is a very wide range. Around 22,000 to 40,000. Please think carefully, friend. Dubai is an expensive place. Good luck.

Thanks 777boyindubai, will bear that in mind.

Based on the info from posts here and the comprehensive thread Adour posted, it does sound like I may well be better off where I am currently.

Please bear in mind that they tell you the salary is low but look at the benefits. EK are experts at manipulation. Look at how they can change your benefits and say it isn't part of the contract. Look at how they changed the pilots' hours from 75 to 92. Put a cap on utilities overnight. The special tickets fiasco. Getting staff to contribute to school fees and moving the goal posts on the level of fees that they will pay up to when EK used to pay all the fees. Also, note EK are not subject to UAE Labour Law.

Two websites have sprung up recently:

https://donotflyemirates.wordpress.com

http://www.emirates-illuminati.org

The latter is now blocked in Dubai

Perhaps that might give you an idea of the mindset.....

Also, please note high levels of resignations from across the board. FD, CC, EK Engineering etc.

Good luck, please read all the threads on Housing, Inflation, School places, etc.

Those links make for some interesting reading! I'm well aware about them claiming benefits make up for a low salary, that's the same line my current airline employer uses :-) They certainly don't make up for it, especially when you cant use standby half the time.

777,

The former of the two websites you posted is quite interesting, assuming they've done what they claim. No surprise that its blocked in the UAE....guess you'd have to view it down route ;)

It does beg the question of why there is no committee of pilots who bring the concerns of the pilot group directly to the senior management, perhaps with a representative from the governing body and a legal counsel to insure consistency.

This is not a (the "U" word which may not be mentioned), but more a body which has only the best interests of safety for all concerned. How can office staff possibly have ANY idea about the dangers that lurk on the line?

It appears as though this kind of thing may be the prevailing course of action used to reign some of the lunacy emanating from the upper floors, although if taken far enough may incur a huge detriment to all concerned, something I think no one wants.

I hear they sacked RH....its a start but there's a long way to go and those who should be removed probably never will be.

777: You say "Grade 10 is a very wide range. Around 22,000 to 40,000."

Does that just refer to the salary component, but excluding allowances, such as housing?

Yes it should be, the grade salary is separate from all the other allowances.
