PBS NewsHour last night unveiled a "new" artifact and the debate over its restoration: Remembering a last-of-its-kind survivor of Pearl Harbor (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/remember-pearl-harbor-debate-restoring-last-kind-military-plane/)

Fascinating article despite being so badly written! Personally I would like to see it preserved as it is. A certain amount of cleaning, then whatever is needed to keep it in that state, like Jade Oil or Lanolin over the metal to keep it good. If they want "bright and shiny" surely a display standard replica could be built.

DR beat me to it! Indeed, an attractive plane.

joy ride; I have to agree with you. Let it wear its age with pride.

I saw it several times on my various visits to the NASM storage facility at Silver Hill and it always looked quite atmospheric standing there covered in dust and rotting gently away. Whatever they do, I am sure that it will stop it getting any worse.

It is a nice artifact, but against all of the Pearl Harbor hype let's not lose sight of the fact that it is in original 1944 condition, not original Dec 7th 1941 condition.
