A rather unfortunate photo on the NATS website, gives the impression that Emirates may need to re-visit their take-off performance charts at Newcastle.

Did it really take that amount of runway to get airborne, or just the media department not understanding the implications of using a tele-photo lens?

Have another look. Think im right in saying the runway doesn't end in the picture but goes up a slight incline and is hidden by the grass. The runway continues past you in the foreground. Pictures can often appear to 'lie'.

Does it matter? Even if it is the end of the runway it's airborne before the grass so no problem......:ooh:

It was a zoom effect photo taken in the NE corner of the airfield. Raised ground in the fore ground covers runway and taxiway.
....and no I don't think a national ANSP should be pushing a photo like this against a non NATS airfield!

Looks as if someone in NATS has been reading this thread, the web page now shows an aerial shot of part of Newcastle Airport.
