Just booking a Trans Tasman flight on the Virgin Australia website in December and noticed that the operator was VIRGIN AUST (NZ) for VA SE ASIA.

Who is VA SE ASIA? Sign of things to come? New bases offshore? New routes? Or just simply yet another name change?

VASE is purely a legal reason, it has something to do with DPS and HKT...

I remember they couldn't send the "Pacific Blue" branded 737s to Asia due to breaching laws. So they slapped a Virgin Blue logo over the Pacific Blue wording.

Jetstar has similar issues, they have "ValuAir" slapped across some of their Singapore based A320s in order to fly to Indonesia.

Pornstar bought out the ValueAir AOC so they could operate their Asian sectors and get access to various ports. That's how they started there.
PacBlue had the original International AOC which allowed access to Bali/Asia, until VB gained their International AOC for those areas.
New Zealand (PacBro) crewing and rostering couldn't accomadate the flights North west of Australia and so VB "wet leased" the runs on the PB AOC. These flights have remained in house with the parent company since, under that fleet name now.
