I was flying out of Las Vegas today, and I noticed a 747SP parked at one of the remote hangers. Looked to be in good condition and flight worthy (granted not a great view as SLF on a regional jet).
My first thought was it was some rich guys private jet, but then I noticed a number of small biz jets parked nearby with the same paint scheme, which suggests maybe some specialized charter outfit?
So, does anyone out there know the story behind this SP?

I believe that it belongs to the Sands Casino group and is used for ferrying high-roller gamblers between Las Vegas and Macau. They used to have L1011's as well.

They actually have two of these beauties. And if the poor old L1011 had not been caught up in the very bad Hurricane which hit Bangkok a couple of years ago, it would have still been flying too.

I suspect you may mean the floods of October 2011 that inundated VTBD?

The owner is:

Sheldon Adelson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon_Adelson)

In addition they have the following:

2 L1011-500's (Not in service at this time)
2 747SP's former TWA/AA aircraft with corporate interiors
1 767-300ER (Adelson's personal airplane)
1 737 BBJ
1 Airbus 340-500 undergoing interior mods at this hour
several Gulfstream V's or 550

Life is rough when you are on top of the game.
