Virgin has announced that services to Albany & Esperance will be cut by around 25%....

Locals say cut in flights to regional WA a blow to tourism and business (http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/locals-say-cut-in-flights-to-regional-wa-a-blow-to-tourism-and-business-20141129-11wff3.html?eid=email:nnn-13omn652-ret_newsl-membereng:nnn-04/11/2013-news_am-dom-news-nnn-watoday-u&campaign_code=13INO006&promote_channel=edmail&mbnr=NTYxMTM0NQ)

Unfortunately, our Albany Mayor hasn't yet worked out the relationship between aircraft seating capacity and frequency. Wanting 100 seaters when 46 seaters can't be operated economically!! Really?

This Perth - Albany route is mostly business passengers anyway - (80%+), and there are limits to that growing. Albany isn't a booming mining or industrial city - it's primarily tourism. Tourists look at the 400 km drive and think.....'that's only a bit over 4 hrs, it takes around 2-2.5 hrs,(tot), by air, and I still need a car for local travel' For 2 travellers - car is by far and away the best option. Even the most discounted fares can't change that.

happy days,

The Busselton Mayor is funnier tho :) all this talk of airport expansion and domestic flights even international flights.... Rofl

Meanwhile VARA slowly downgrade their service to 1 per week....

People down that way are dreaming if they think they are ever going to get direct services from the east coast

The 0700(?) curfew lift is somewhat of an issue for "expansion" :ugh: Mustn't have those noisy air-o-planes frightening the horses and putting the cows off their milk. A certain large mining company has been running F100 charters direct to some Pilbara sites for a numbers of years now--those Busso commuters have it made, outbound, not departing until 0800 ;)-- gentlemans hours.
On a slightly more serious note, I attended a gathering in Albany just two weeks ago--A Dragonair captain was with us, and his wife flew down on the Saturday morning due to committments in Perth on Friday--she described the trip as an "enjoyable scenic":} The total elapsed time, as a previous poster pointed out, really takes the gloss off the flying option, particularly as the drive down is far from unpleasant.
