Looking at the new G500 and -600 they look very impressive.

Notable is their use of sidesticks for the first time on a Gulfstream and especially that they are full back driven and move in unison whether in manual flight or on autopilot.

This seems like the best of all worlds to me, great situational awareness (much better than Airbus) and the best possible ergonomics.

Just curious why this was not incorporated on the 'flagship' 650 ?

Gulfstream wanted to have a common type rating for G450/550/650, so they went for a conventional control column. Had they known from the beginning that this won't happen, they would probably have built the 650 with side stick as well.

Correct. Totally different type.
