Time to join Facebook and support the umbrella movement!

Occupy posting linked to Shanghai entry ban

A stewardess refused entry into the mainland is "not an outspoken person," according to Cathay Pacific Airways Flight Attendants Union.
The statement came as the flight attendant, who was working on only her fourth flight, was refused entry on Tuesday night after flight CX364 from Hong Kong landed at Shanghai Pudong International Airport at about 8pm.

A source said it is believed the entry ban is linked to her having posted a picture of a yellow umbrella on her Facebook page with a slogan that read "Uphold the Umbrella Movement."

Ground staff informed the woman she was not allowed to enter Shanghai.

She was questioned for about an hour and then forced to take a Dragonair flight back to Hong Kong.

It was her first flight to the mainland as a Cathay Pacific employee.

The union's operations executive, Ada So, said it was "unlikely" the flight attendant had been refused entry because of anything she may have said or expressed to others.

"One of our executive committee members who has worked with her on a previous flight said this was unlikely, as she was not an outspoken person," she said.

So said this was the first time the union had heard of a flight attendant being refused entry into the mainland for apparent political reasons.

A recording has been circulating on WhatsApp, which said the woman was banned from entering Shanghai due to her support for Occupy Central.

The recording was reportedly from her colleague.

Another WhatsApp message identified the flight attendant who was refused entry as the "Yellow Ribbon stewardess," so called for having visited the Mong Kok protest zone.

Both WhatsApp messages have yet to be verified.

An airline spokeswoman refused to provide further details beyond confirming that "a Cathay Pacific cabin crew was not able to enter the territory on November 18 when the flight arrived at Shanghai Pudong."

She should change her job and become a politician.

Imagining that ultra-conservative CX are cursing themselves, that they didn't catch this dangerous person and clamp her in irons before the mighty Red Guard caught her.......

God I miss China - not.

Guys,

She appears to be receiving meaningful support from her union.

This is funny because it puts Cathay in a less than desirable position.

Normally, such disruption to the operation would be automatic dismissal, especially for a junior cabin crew member.

But if Cathay fires this poor person, they will be eaten alive on social media. I would not be surprised if a crowd of thousands shows up in front of Cathay city to occupy it if they did take such action against her.

Just imagine, a HK company that always brags about how much it loves HK and how HK is such a great place filled with great people, then goes and fires an employee for exercising her basic human rights to protest oppression.

So Cathay can't take action, which I am sure will piss off the natives to the north. Cathay is always sucking up to China and treating them with kid gloves. Would not take much for the Chinese to take action against Cathay, which would really hurt the bottom line.

So like I said, a very interesting position for the company. I'm guessing a quiet dismissal, made quiet by large sums of money to keep it so.

:hmm:

Dear China,

Every single one of the cabin crew I have asked today supports the peaceful demonstrations in Hong Kong attempting to bring China into the 20th Century, never mind the 21st.

I suspect that goes for AA cabin crew,UA,Delta, Lufty, BA etc etc ..........

I know Swire have a long history in Shanghai but I don't think they should still be calling it a "territory"!

What was in that video Shep? It has gone already.

The obvious answer is for every single crew member at CX, who has a FB profile, to post a picture of a yellow umbrella or otherwise express sympathy for something the commies don't like. Would be very interesting to see how they'd handle that, probably by extending the Great Fire Wall to cover Honkers. And that I'd like to see!

Any 777s get this paint job? Might be a bit of fun to see how they sensor the tail should it be scheduled through PVG or PEK!

So, where can I get a yellow umbrella tie clip? I'd love to be banned from entering China. No more 48-hour layovers in PVG without a functional Internet connection!
