45m wide with turning extensions. Looks like they went off the side after backtracking for RW21.

Judging from the photos, the A330 was a loooong way from making it round, as the RH gear is nearly in the grass too. Must have looked pretty bad from the cockpit...

Just noticed the guys playing golf - checking the rules for “airliners on the fairway”. Is that a free drop?

Khon Kaen’s single runway has no taxiways

Does anyone have a remote idea of what they were trying to say ? Maybe there are no taxiways leading to the threshold ?

....Whilst not qualified in any aspect of Airbus or this airfield, the position that the aircraft ended up in, and from what looks like it could be the main runway, might have been a swift opening of the throttles, and one engine not spooling up. Of course, since this would imply nobody monitoring the clocks, I repeat that it's merely a thought.......light weight, rated or high thrust setting, failure below Vmcg sometimes has been demonstrated on the sim perhaps?

The instance I'm thinking of involved a big twin attempting to power it's way out of a not dissimilar situation, and peppering its stabiliser with high velocity rubbish.

possibility of a runway excursion always exists in such small airports.

Doing a 180 on 45 m Rwy with extensions is easy , done it in a 330 /340 many many times. These guys either screwed up or there are other factors ( brakes or steering )

The edge of KKC runway is 70 m width. I don't know this width is easy for making a 180 degree turn on A330.

Minimum pavement width for 180 is 46 m for A330-300, acc. FCOM.

Yes, with 70 meters turnpad, it's quite easy on an A330. Assuming you've had before a good training in the sim, and practised during line training a few times.
It becomes harder at night, when the runway markings are poor, with rain or snow...
What might have happened here is they didn't turn left enough, then their clockwise turn was not sharp enough, and/ or too fast. It really looks like that.

Anythink we don't know? Anywone else sharing his experience on A330?

Flew out of there last week, the runway condition where it went off is appalling.
