According to a m8, his deskie told him that all PA aircrew will be offered extension of service to 60yo next spring on current terms.

Anyone able to confirm this?

That is news - the letters were supposed to be going out next month to all RAF PAS officers and career spine aircrew of sqn ldr and above. Some early offers have gone out to individuals already, if circumstances have required it

I wonder what has prompted the delay?

Anyone know if those taking Pa spine post 2015 will have their afps 75 portion of their pensions based upon their exit PA pension point, or will the 75 pension not count PA? If I get picked up to SL or Wing Co, my 75 pension will be based upon that rank for final salary, will PA be the same?

I would not have thought so. As PAS of AFPS75 you get a pension supplement for every day served as PAS; as you will not have served a day as PAS on AFPS75 there will be no supplement to award. Of course, the new pension scheme is more generous for PAS when compared to AFPS75.

But is PAS not a pay scale? The PM has confirmed my AFPS75 element will be based upon salary when I leave the service and not my salary in 2015? Are PAS pay points salary or not?

Why will I be interested in signing up for PAS if there are no pensions benefits to it for the majority of my service career I will have spent in?

Be really really nice for someone to clarify these points as I don't think it's been sufficiently covered for individuals to make informed decisions.

Sorry Vin if I have misunderstood you. PAS pension on AFPS15 is a lot more attractive than on AFPS75, so I am slightly confused. Feel free to PM me if you want to go into detail.

Vinrouge, the pension calculator does a good job of answering your questions. I was led to believe that AFPS75 is a final salary pension; so it's based on your final salary. You'll stop accruing benefits, but those frozen benefits will be applied to your age 60 final PAS salary, not the salary you were on in 2015.

If you're my sort of age (mid-late 30s with a PAS offer), AFPS15 is extremely generous. The lower accrual rate is normally offset by it being a career average scheme, but if your career average is based on starting AFPS15 on top rate Flt Lt and ending on top rate PAS, it's obviously pretty high.

The pension calculator allows you to say when you will transfer to PAS in the future, and what level you think you'll enter it, and works things out from that.

If all Officers Sqn Ldr to Gp Capt, as well as those on PAS, are to be offered a 5 year extension of Service, what are the future promotion prospects of those wishing to climb the greasy career ladder? I believe there could be a 5 year period ahead with very little chance of promotion as those who would have left the Service remain in post creating a log jam for those below.

Could be the last?

There was an IBN released this week outlining everything. Not everyone is eligible, it identifies specific trades and the Mandatory End of Service (MEOS) regs. Individuals will have to ask HR or their DOs for specifics. Wrt aircrew, PAS offered to SO2s from Jan 15 will be mandated to go to MEOS(60).

I'll try to take a look at that IBN next week.

Thanks.

I assume that nobody currently serving will be disadvantaged by being moved on to NEM conditions that would see a retirement date earlier than their current retirement date?

Or is that an assumption too far given the way we seem to treat people these days?
