with possibly the most half-hearted water cannon salute ever seen!

BBC News - British Airways Boeing 737 lands at Cranfield University (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-29741443)

There used to be an Ex BA Trident at Cranfield which I assume was donated to the university for similar reasons. I camped out in a waterlogged tent under it's wing in the mid eighties when attending the PFA fly in - is it still there?

I guess it will be left outside to slowly rot. Anyone know where at Cranfield will be its final resting place?

A BA spokesperson said;

"With more modern and efficient aircraft coming into our fleet, it's great that we have the opportunity to dump this retired 737 on Cranfield and escape all the horrendous costs of disposing of it".

So it's a win-win, really.

Rumors are that BTA and BTB are going to be sold. Hopefully avoiding the "Horrendous Costs"!
In this day and age it's difficult to know if internet quotes are genuine. Abraham Lincoln. :)

It starts to show your age when the aircraft you flew when brand new start to be retired.

I first flew this one (G-DOCB) on 17/11/1991 LHR-CGN-LHR when it was probably less than a month old.:(

Surely there must be a charter airline somewhere who would take old 737 Jets?

Yes,

Jet2's oldest 733 is marching on towards the 30 year mark.
Only about another year and a half to go!
They've certainly had their moneys worth out of their earlier frames over the last decade or so.

At the moment it on the Echo taxi way, I'm told it will either go in one of the hangers (will it fit?) or up the east end apron? We got to have a close look today..
