Do Flybe ask for a type rating and time on type for their Q400 first officer positions?

Or have they ever requested this in the past?

A Q400 type rating is something you don't obtain. You incur it.

I dont know if the situation remains the same but when I joined many many moons ago I was already rated on the Shed but I had no plans on moving on, as I was interested on moving up to the 146, which I did. I think there was some sort of bond which I signed. This was irrelevant as I stayed a fair few years anyway.

Things do change ( Management) ;) which is one of the reasons I left. I believe Da Management has changed again though but afaik it is still a bond of sorts, as Q400 ratings are not that common in UK, so niche market and all that really.

Good luck with it, you will certainly get loads of interesting flying, which at the end of the day is why we are all in this profession in the first place.
There are still some excellent trainers there but unfortunately a few Tossers too, thankfully not that many though :)
Njoy :)

Just out of curiosity, in Europe are the Q400 and other members of the DHC-8 family different type ratings?

About 550 now. Roughly 50/50 split. Everyone here is waiting for the A319 order to be confirmed.

There is not going to be a 319 order. Flybe have stated publicly that the future is with the q400 and a small number of E-jets flying thin feeder routes

A319 order? That's the first I heard about that rumour!

I think he is being sarcastic re. the 319s. It has been doing the rounds for over a decade. Not going to happen. Low cost short haul in Europe is absoloutely cut throat at the moment with significant excess capacity and more on the way. Flybe don't have the war chest to even consider making such a move. Far better running TPs at a profit than jets at a loss. Been there, done that, learned the lesson.

Advert on Flight Global a few days ago for E195 FOs based in England for a six month contract from February until August. The ad specifically said England and not the UK, so I assume it's for Flybe? Anyone know what the deal is with this position? Any chance of being kept on after the 6 months, even if it were on the Q fleet? Seems very specific in only mentioning the E195, no mention of the E175 at all in the advert.

What are the chances for experienced fo's for the q400? I have 2400 hrs on Dash8 300 series upgrading to Q400 shortly looking at 60 hrs a month. Also have Uk atpl total hours 2700hrs. I did my training modular in UK years ago.
