I bought a tablet the other week which has Win 8.1 and Office 2013. Having typed in the product key (at the second or third attempt :() and agreed to the installation of 'click to start' ( ) it then wouldn't finish the installation telling me that 'something went wrong' and referred me to Microsoft KB2827031 which implies that this was due to a second installation being started before the first was finished. I tried the suggestion of repairing it online but this apparently failed as did the offline repair. The only alternative seems to be uninstalling and reinstalling Office which of course I can't do as I don't have an installation disk (or am I missing something?) On the program listing under Control Panel (when I finally found it:ugh:) there appear to be two entries, on as Microsoft Office and the other as Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013.

Has anyone else experienced this or something similar, and if so, how can it be overcome apart from by a visit to my friendly local repairman who always rubs his hands together in anticipation as he sees me walk through the door?

As you say, the aforementioned KB2827031 clearly states "This problem usually occurs if a second installation of Office was started before the first installation was finished or if you restarted your computer before the current Office installation was finished."

You also state in your post "I bought a tablet the other week"

Thus I would extrapolate that the OEM factory imaging of said device either did not complete correctly, or the image is a dud.

Try here (http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/products/get-office-oem-download-page-FX103849951.aspx) for the official Microsoft page relating to downloading a copy of Office OEM to enable you to reinstall.

If that fails, the correct next port of call is the manufacturer of said device, tell them about their dud system image and ask them what they plan to do about it.
