Wonder if anyone else watched this film, on tv last week?

Some great Technicolor shots, paricularly of Dayglo-painted B-29 mother ship, dropping X-2, plus XB-51 (albeit renamed for film).

The plot & acting were quite acceptable & stand the test of time well - worth seeing!

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I remember enjoying the film as a schoolboy. Recent attempts to find the title and its availability as a DVD were thwarted when I read the family of William Holden would not authorise its release. Either that information was false or the family changed their mind. Either way I have just ordered it online.

Thank you for that - never seen it but it's now on my shopping list!

(PPRuNe can be a very expensive influence in the DVDs/Books/Drinks departments!)

Another film I recall seeing at about the same time was 'Eyes in the Sky' about L-19 Birddogs in Korea. This was in glorious black and white. I can find no trace of it online so wonder if it was also released under a different title. I hope one of our kinophile might know the answer.

this might be the movie you are thinking of, but its about L4s and L5s...at one point they rig up bazookas on the wings to attack tanks.

this was actually done in WW2 also...with even more success.

hope this helps

and "TOWARD THE UNKNOWN" is seen once in ahwile on TCM and you wouldn't have to pay when it comes on, checck the schedule.

Its a pretty nifty movie, great filming of unusual airplanes.

Thanks for the tips gentlemen but the old film I would like to see again most definitely had the L-19A as the spotter throughout. Any further suggestions would be welcome. :-)
