The photo in the article does not show an F27 or a F 27-50 (Fokker 50) I suspect that shot is of a Let 410 or similar. Just saying. My last job was on the F27 a great machine but those old Darts are just worn out now and never put much power out in the first place. Sad to hear one is down most likely just the photo is wrong not the story.

Yes the photo in the article is from Mombasa air Safari which crashed last year I believe - although old saabforever the Fokker 27 is still a good aircraft and with proper maintenance the darts are reliable but unfortunately suffer from high fuel consumption which makes them uneconomic in this day and age.

Are there any engineers around these days well versed in the vagaries of that dreadful pneumatic system? Can you find water methanol anywhere anymore or has Russian home made hooch become a satisfactory substitute in the far flung corners of Africa?

One would have liked to place a couple of those small GoPro cameras about the cabin then do an emergency extension of the landing gear on a passenger flight just to record the expressions as the farting, groaning and roaring pneumatic system shoved the gear out into the slipstream.

It was always good for a laugh to brief the cojoe to keep an eye on their faces when doing an emergency gear extension.
