I only came to know Jack through family connections. Jack was a quiet achiever who did a lot for British aviation in a quiet way, not seeking fame but simply doing a job, while revelling in his vocation. Even in older years, his pleasure and interest in almost anything related to aviation was undimmed, whether it was at the cutting edge or not.
It was a pleasure as much as it was a privilege to know this quiet, unassuming but remarkably capable and knowledgeable man.

Farewell Jack. You became a part of British aviation history.

There is also a nice obituary in the Indpendent.
