I am experiencing problems with my mouse, particularly in two areas which, while superficially distinct, are perhaps related.
In the BBC News website, within the UK section relating to choosing between the different geographical regions of England, the region at the top of the list is "North West England". Clicking on that lets me choose from a list of areas within that region and if I do so, that's what I get. Then clicking on the "back" arrow backs me out to the North West England list again - perfect! Until a few weeks ago, doing the same for, say, the East Midlands region did exactly the same and clicking "back" from viewing an area in the East Midlands used to bring me back out to the East Midlands list again so that I could select another area in the East Midlands. Now clicking to back out from an East Midlands area (and equally from an area in any other region in England) brings me back to the "North West" list which is very irritating when trying to review the BBC News in an orderly fashion over my early morning coffee. Occasionally I think I see a brief flash of a different screen when I've clicked "reload" as if, perhaps, it's gone back two pages instead of just one. It doesn't go wrong at all, ever, when I go through exactly the same process within, say, the Scotland lists.
Now I'd normally put that down to a c--k up by the BBC and forget about it but I have another problem.... When I want to enlarge certain sorts of thumbnails (here, for example:- Renfrew Airport - Glasgow, Scotland, Building (http://www.glasgowarchitecture.co.uk/renfrew-airport) ) I click on the first one I want to see - whichever it may be - and it opens perfectly. Thereafter when I click on another I get a blank screen and have to "reload current page" and then wait for that icon to change to "stop" and then back to reload, whereupon the enlarged image opens perfectly in a new window. In the case of some websites even that isn't enough because once the "reload current page" has reappeared I have to click on it yet again to get my enlarged image. If I revisit any of those thumbnails during the same session on the computer it works perfectly first time as it's coming from cache (I imagine). This process used to work perfectly, just the way it was intended.
Both this thumbnail issue and the BBC one appeared on the same day about eight weeks ago. Perhaps one time in fifty both problems don't happen, even now.
So I thought it was a hardware problem with the mouse - you know what they're like - so I changed my long-in-use wireless mouse for another one I have - no change. Then I tried a cabled USB mouse but with no change once again. Now I'm using a PS2 cabled mouse from Logitech, once I found the right hole, but it's just the same. I did specify each new mouse correctly in Control Panel before using it and I have tried changing the click timing/duration, selecting throughout the range offered.
This is clearly too technical for me so can anybody help, please? It's driving me bonkers.
