According to Turkish news paper reports Filght 7290 departing from Antalya at 0720 yesterday for Izmir, much to the surprise of all passengers, returned to Antalya after 20-25 mins airborne. Reason given to pax was insufficent fuel. Passengers also claim the aircraft was operated by Anadolu Jet and that the aircraft they subsequently boarded at 10:00hrs belonged to Sun Express. Curious indeed.

What is curious?

What about fuel state, is it not a curious fiction or fact de facto. The Turkish Milliyet news paper, which is not exactly a light weight has published this allegation. Should it not be taken seriously, how would one imagine most airline passengers would react to this sort of news.

Without any further information it's hard to pass any comment.
I have however turned back due to discovering a fuel gauging error which only manifested itself in the climb and left us short of the required fuel.

surely not

In days gone when people were encouraged to act like grown ups the passengers would have thought 'ok, a mistake has been made but we landed safely and another flight has been provided. Nice recovery by the airline.'

Now they are encouraged to think
Firstly that they must have been close to death and are lucky to survive; Secondly that they should receive compensation for their inconvenience and terror;
Thirdly that they should have been given a running commentary on everything as it was happening by the pilots even if they were busy.

Thirdly is justified on the basis that they bought a ticket and therefore 'have a right to know everything immediately'. Total bolleaux but it seems to be the way we are headed judging by some recent reporting of incidents.

AVHerald reports a more plausible version of events but also reports the PAX were told the aircraft was low on fuel.
SunExpress B738 near Antalya on Aug 10th 2014, low fuel indications (http://avherald.com/h?article=4789cc0d&opt=1)

If they were low on fuel,then only 3 possibilities,,
1)the aircraft took off with less than the required fuel(improbable),
2)the aircraft got a fuel leak in which case the crews did the right thing.
3)izmir got unexpected bad weather at landing time and aircraft didnt carry extra fuel for that probability as it is a short flight.

Was izmir not only their departure airport but their destination alternate as well?
