So now everyone is avoiding Iraq, we are all going into Iran, today seemed plain dangerous, while on the border frequency with UAE, 2 different people where reporting TA's, everyone was stepping on each other, utter chaos!!

Stay safe!!

I wonder if Iran will seek ATC help from outsiders such as Serco or NATS. The airspace in Western Iran has gone from nothing to mega-busy overnight. Any ANSP would struggle under these circumstances!

Now there's a surprise!
The airway being taken by aircraft no longer routing via Iraq, along the western side of Iran, is bi-directional. This is a known safety issue and ICAO has published recommended maximum traffic levels for such routes. I am certain that during the rush traffic hours this recommended figure is greatly exceeded.
Also you have to feel for the ATCs involved, going from a very low traffic density to levels in excess of fifty per hour. Can the system cope?
Unfortunately you won't see the flying public being made away of these safety issues. I wonder if those that contributed to the thread about how dangerous it was to overfly Iraq will have anything to say about the potential threat that this new routing brings.

Three days ago I was so happy to leave Ankara airspace and fly into Tehran..CB's over Turkey, everybody talking over everybody else and ATC loosing the plot.

I think Iranian ATC is not too bad. Better than any of the Ankara Sisters in Turkey, better than Saudi, better than any of the clusterf***s in India and Bangladesh and they are friendly too.

NG_Kaptain: I too was flying in Turkish airspace on same that afternoon and, following an hour of terrible screeching from the Ankara Sisters along with a line of very awkwardly located Cb's, I fully concur that it was pure pleasure to enter the Iran FIR ! :ok:

Just to keep on topic.... Ankara is not in Iraq :ugh::ok:

A few years back we all flew through Tehran FIR, Iraq FIR was still closed. It didn't seem to be a problem then so not sure what all the fuss is about now.I'd say that the mountains would be more of a hassle especially with a leaky aircraft.

Give them a few days to ramp up!

I'd rather that than anywhere in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan or West Africa!

Saw a doosy of an RA last night between a Pakistan and an Etihad just north of ORSAR. Airlines may want to reconsider their route and fly over the UAE instead of crossing the inbound rush (who are all descending). Tehran does seem unable to cope with the sudden increase in traffic.

If it keeps up for much longer the agencies involved will have to revisit procedures, at the very least.

Ferris,

Is the route through MIDSI one way only? Is there a way to temporarily promulgate an airway that comes down from Tehran FIR and feeds traffic back into Bahrain FIR? The east bound tracks must not be too far north of Bahrain FIR and this would mean traffic can come into the UAE FIR through TOMSO/DEGSO as it was before this. ORSAR is getting crazy and this is summer, wait until Finnair, Northshuttle and all the Russians come back to the UAE!

Bring back PAPAR!

You really needed to get all your ducks in a row for PAPAR. At least DARAX gives you time.

The route thru MIDSI is two-way, but not suitable for what you propose, Westatc. However, relief is in sight.

Temporary airways about to go in which will relieve the stress on ORSAR. Big changes afoot over the next week. Hopefully, some very positive developments.

M.R. Roomina was one of the best ATC men that the world has ever seen. If he was alive now, you would never have this kind of problems with passing over Iran!
I have only flown once in Iranian airspace, and I can say Iranian ATCs are scared as hell from traffics and also need some experienced people to help them out! Too bad Roomina aint around to help them out again and train some good people in here!

I'd be willing to bet the Ankara Sisters are drop dead gorgeous.

The ones with the sexy voices are usually fat pigs.

Nice in the air? Sits on two chairs.

Nice on the phone? Add four stone.
