Where were the Gannets manufactured? Which factory?

I ask having just seen XT752(?) fly past me.

Gannets were built at Faireys (later Westlands) in Hayes.

AFAIK, XT752 (currently the only airworthy Gannet) is displaying at Oshkosh this week.

Thank you.

There was another reason for asking and that was, for a period in my life, I worked at White Waltham airfield in the (decommissioned) officers mess. Fairey did have a presence there in the past but I didn't think the Gannet had been made there.

How did they move them, once complete, from Hayes? I assume by road but did they go complete to an airfield (which?) or in pieces which had to be assembled?

And yes, Oshkosh. Which has been somewhat damp on day 2!

Hayes built Gannets were test flown from White Waltham, and a few from Northolt.

Gannets were also built at Fairey's factory in Heaton Chapel, Stockport, and test flown from Manchester Ringway.

In fact, there are nearly 30 complete, surviving Gannets worldwide in various states of preservation or neglect.

Also one on display outside the Berkshire Aviation Museum (Woodley, outskirts of Reading). Along with a complete HP Herald you can go on board, and many other exhibits inside the hangar. Nice place to spend a couple of hours.

Preserved at Hermeskil, with a very odd-shaped canopy:

Thanks for the reply...it looks considerably better than when it was languishing in a revetment at Bruggen.....albeit a useful shelter at times.
