Virgin Atlantic Flight 251 diverted to Irkutsk, Russia, due to technical problems. Hope nothing serious.

Shanghai PVG - London Heathrow LHR

G-VWIN, according to ITAR-TASS (russian news agency) there was a report of smoke in baggage hold.

certain prominent TeamGB divers are on board trying to get back for Commonwealth Games. tweeted/instagram'd pictures of dumping fuel and being kept on board whilst cause investigated on ground.

Virgin Atlantic confirmed on Twitter "I'm afraid the flight won't be departing this evening. We're working on arranging accommodation and onward transport"

Just seen a report that a Virgin AtlanticA340-600 has made an emergency landing... Apparently may have takeoff from China.

Sorry for vague report but if anyone has any more info, please post

Just seen a report on a friends instagram that their flight from china on a Virgin Atlantic A340 was diverted. Trying to find out more info. Seems like everyone is ok.

latest update from Virgin Atlantic website (VS9926 just crossed from Russian airspace into Estonian airspace a few minutes ago around 16:45Z)

VS251 Update 6 - 22 July 12:35 UK local time / 22 July 20:35 Irkutsk local time:
We are pleased to advise the first of our flights from Irkutzk has departed for London Heathrow.
VS9926 departed at 20:07 local time and will arrive into London Heathrow at 20:28 local time.
We are still working out the confirmed departure time for our second flight, the VS1251 on the 23rd July. We will update this site and send SMS messages to passengers booked onto this flight, as well as getting messages to the hotel with these details and ground transport arrangements.
Continue to stay in the hotel, and make use of the facilities charging items to your room. If you need any essential items that cannot be charged to your room please keep your receipts for reimbursement when you return home.
We would like to thank everyone for their continued patience and understanding.
