Mmmmm rear cockpit layout, somewhat enclosed with a forward cabin perhaps.
Can I see a french signature or details about the aeroplane at the bottom of the photograph, 1942 ??
Interesting detail with some control levers on the upper left.
More time to study tomorrow.....and answers sooner!!

Boeing Monomail. Then again, perhaps Northrop Alpha. Will go for Alpha.

Edit to say definitely Alpha. IMHO.

Brian is correct. Specifically, it is the Northrop Y1C-19 Alpha. Naming the manufacturer, and the type designator is important to me. Thank you. Truly an elegant aeroplane.

Thank you for the beauty of a photograph, yes I was 12 years out but since spending time with my friend Google now know a great deal more about this one of seventeen built model.
What was taxi-ing like for the lonely pilot cocooned behind that large cabin??
The advanced designs that Northrop incorporated....

Thanks for bringing such an interesting, beautiful aircraft to my attention. Such a mixture of old and new features.


I wonder why Jack Northrop didn't put an enclosed cockpit at the front of the cabin, behind the engine. A much better view and weather protection for the pilot and it would have made passenger access to the cabin much easier, with a door aft of the wing. Plus I suspect that the passengers would have felt much more comfortable with the pilot in front of them.

Not the Stinson mate, but it is from the USA. Only one engine. Licence produced in Canada and one served with the RAAF.

Not much interest with this one, it was the Delta.
