Whilst in Shanghai I bought an ASUS fonepad. It is a smartphone and a 7 inch tablet in one. The mobile phone docks into the tablet and then all the functions can be controlled as if were a normal tablet. Everything works fine including both UK sims. However, being made for the Chinese market it does not have Googleplay installed so it cannot download British Apps. The Chinese version that's installed, Baidu, only downloads in Chinese.

All the internet functions are normal but I cannot download Googleplay so I can download any Apps. I get on to the website and it goes through the motions of downloading it but nothing results.

There is not a language problem, the phone can be set for innumerable languages.

Has anybody any ideas?

On my ancient small-memory tablet, Googleplay is a PITA - especially as I can't move it to my huge SD card. Having got all the apps I need I uninstalled Googleplay this week, liberating a vast amount of memory and a lot of unwanted updates.

I would suggest an alternative: put a good anti-virus on your Fonepad, set it to filter any apps you might download, and then go elsewhere for what you want. There are many alternative reliable providers of Android apps out there (and yes, be cautious, there are a few unreliable ones).

I generally browse Googleplay on my Win7 notebook, and install any apps remotely from there. You need the same G account on notebook and tablet.
