Nope, Duxford on Saturday!

Steve Hinton and co from Chino shipped it to the UK as a "surprise" for Flying Legends. Bloody marvellous!

Aah, the last time I saw a Connie was at Wymeswold in the '60s when one landed from Spain(?) with 2 of its engines inside and one feathered - crazy!! No idea how 'they' got away with it. It was inbound to a maintenance facility I believe!

The P26 has always been a favorite of mine. Lines that liken to the GB Racer.

And the paint job. IF I HAD AN AIRLINE, all the planes would have that paint job (modified for jets).

I've always wondered....why is it called a Peashooter?

I think it might refer to that tube-like gunsight above the cowling.

Or just a play on the "P" for pursuit/"shooter"? i think it was a model that had fairly high production for an inter-war pursuit plane.

IIRC, it was nicknamed "the Peashooter" because of the gunsight tube.

I assumed they were all retired by the late 30s. But according to Wikipedia they accounted for a couple of Zeros in WW2 and last saw combat (Guatemala) in 1954!

Now, believe it or not, I was not alive when that photo was taken. :p

However, I was later based in both of those hangars flying corporate jets, in the 1970s and 1980s and those hangars are still in use to this day.

Slight thread drift but I too saw the Peashooter on Saturday but more exciting for me was seeing Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown. Small of stature but a giant of a man!

Steve Hinton goes back to at least Flying Legends 1997 and has probably has been invited by Stephen Grey to fly at every one - his Fighter Rebuilders team has been associated with quite a few of the TFC restorations over the last 30 years.

Steve H has been flying Stephen Grey's aircraft at Duxford since the mid-80s. As others have said, a super-nice guy and very approachable.

And cambioso, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the Mystery Ship again, hopefully in the sun this time!
