Jumbo Jet is a phrase applied to wide bodies. Or used to be.

It still is, although less so these days. It's true that the 747 was the first plane to have 'jumbo jet' status, but it's a term used at various times for all widebodies.

That's weird. The press screwed up facts and made a story more sensational than it is?? I'm sure heads will roll!
