CTC MPL Route

Hello everyone,

I'm going to apply for the CTC MPL route with a airline but I'm worried and need some assurance I'll be able to complete the program successfully. I've had a strong passion for aviation since my early teen years however I have no flight experience and little flight knowledge. Looking at student pilots blog all the exams and ground school theory work seems rather hard and I'm not sure whether I'd be able to learn everything and pass first time for someone with such little knowledge. I'm rather smart I have GCSES in a few subjects including the main three (Maths, English, Science) for those who are currently studying at flight school or even CTC would you say the theory work is easy to learn and understand for someone like myself + any tips on what I should do before I join (books etc)

An A level in maths or physics is useful for the theory, otherwise you may find that you are having to learn new maths in order to learn the theory.

I'd also recommend doing a short practice lesson in a light aircraft before committing to training. One of my instructors said he once had someone who went up for their first lesson only to get airsick and not be able to fly.

Junior1248 what a great idea now that you have the passion to go professional there is nothing to stop you, if you are worried why not pop into the airport and have a look and see what's going on there. :rolleyes:

Oh thanks for the answers people but I'm not worried about actually flying I travel overseas like 5+ times a year I know how everything works my dad is a pilot but lives in Qatar I'm just curious on whether someone with very little flight knowledge can learn what is required at ground school and pass my exams

So here's my tip: Forget CTC, MPL and worrying about ATPL written exams! Why don't you visit your local airfield, take a few lessons towards getting a PPL, see if you actually enjoy been a pilot...

Oh I'm certain I'll enjoy being a pilot I've been on the jump seat when my dad is flying the 777 I'm determined to become a commercial pilot I just want hear people's input on the theory work

As flight deck access was blocked in 2001, (and QR's first 777 was delivered in 2007!), 13 years ago assuming your age is correct on your profile, would make you 5 years of age maximum when you were on the jump-seat...!!!! :ugh:

Get a class 1 medical and start your PPL and more importantly, have lots of fun! You're everything that's wrong with the next generation of "wonderkids"!

It's not as simple as applying to a MPL program with CTC. Competition is fierce and you will need to stand out. Everyone has GCSEs. Whilst you're still at school/sixth form get out there and take part in as many activities that you can that will help your application stand out.

I'd say most of the theory is fairly straightforward to understand, just there is a lot of it to learn and in many cases it is remembering facts.

I also think a bit more effort is required on your part to research all possible ways to enter the industry, what pitfalls you may encounter and how you could potentially overcome these problems. Your Dad's knowledge would be an excellent place to start!

JB007, you are thinking European rules, other parts of the world have a rather more sensible approach to allowing verifiable people on the jump seat :D

Thank you very much everyone me and my dad have decided that I should go to America instead as it is cheaper and there's more airspace from there I shall go onto train with qatar airways and become a pilot just like him. Thank you again
