Apologizing in advance for interjecting further aviation content, but the Super Cubs in the video have the upgraded 180 hp engines in them. So that was one of the reasons they were able to get off the ground so fast, coupled with the 55 kts wind gusts of course. ;)

Con,

What does a normal cub have engine wise ?

Also, the aircraft that got blown sideways or downwind ?

The pilot didn't have a chance to turn into the wind ?

I probably need to look at the video again !

Normal Super Cub has a 150-horse mill. I'm guessing the wind was swirling around enough that by the time he became airborne he was into wind.

Gusts will often weathercock you into wind.
