You beat me to it. Lord Flasheart. RIP.

56 - far too young. I wonder how well he recovered from his quad bike accident?

His CV is extensive, of course, but his portrayal of a prankster father in Man Down was a late career highlight.

I am beyond sadů
Don't have many idols, but he was the stand-out exception.

What an utter shame! The Young Ones was the first television programme I saw upon my arrival in the UK and who could forget Lord Flasheart!

The Legend that is ... Lord Flashheart! - YouTube

I read that he did struggle for some time after his accident but he reprised his role to some extent in a series of adverts for an English ale not that long ago.

Let rip and RIP Mr Mayall.

As a teenager, "The Young Ones" was compulsive viewing..

Great comic talent.

Oh crap. First Mel Smith, now Rik. Too soon.

Flasheart and Rick (with a silent P) aside, I'll miss Richie. RIP.

Flashheart & Alan B. B'Stard. :D
RIP Rik.

So terribly sad, I think this is the first time I've lost an idol, as such. Grew up with The Young Ones and the hilariously ridiculous Bottom; my best friend and I wasted far too much time quoting Bottom sketches verbatim. Can't quite believe it. May you rest in peace Sir.

There's only one Lord Flashheart......woof !

I loved all his characters but the stand outs me were Colin Grigson the posh bass player in Bad News and of course Lord Flasheart ... "Always treat your kite the way you treat your woman" and the Four Men In A ( car, plane etc)

I know, gutted. RIP Rik Mayall.
I loved "The Young Ones" when I was in Oz. Even my Mum watched it. :D
Brilliantly funny.

I also liked his Lord Flasheart character. :ok:

His beer adverts were outstanding. :D

I loved all his characters but the stand outs me were Colin Grigson the posh bass player in Bad News.

"Hey Mr Bassman, what is your name?"

"My name is Colin Grigson, playing the bass guitar is my game. So, let's play bass guitar...now!!"

"Can we turn that off now please Brian, & get on with the next one?"

Hahahahaha! Brilliant!

9th Jun 2014, 20:55
As an American, I only knew him from The Young Ones. Absolutely brilliant.

RIP Mr Mayall, you did that most wonderful thing - you made us laugh.

"and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest"

10th Jun 2014, 08:24
Can't believe he's gone. Far too soon.

I grew up with the Young Ones, and loved so many of his other characters - Kevin Turvey, Flasheart, Alan B'stard. What an amazing legacy.

Only the good die young - and Rik Mayall was as good as they come. RIP Rik.

It has been reported this morning that he may have died following a fit. Here. (http://web.orange.co.uk/article/news/rik_mayall_comedian_may_have_died_after_fit)

I quite liked his performance as the hapless victim of his stag-night prank in "Dancing Queen".

10th Jun 2014, 11:55
Very sad, Mrs Fliegs and I were both rather down about this when hearing of it today. Loved Adrian Edmonsons remark 'Now he's dead for real without me...selfish Bastard!!' ... You just know Rik would have laughed at that!

News here is starting to spread round Oz. The Young Ones and Black Adder are possibly my two favourite comedy shows, never missed an episode in my formative years.

Rest in peace Rick. Your wit, charm and humour will be sorely missed.

11th Jun 2014, 07:40
For me they were all great performances but I loved his Alan B'stard.
Perfect send up and probably more topical now.

There is a campaign to try to get this rather dodgy England World Cup song from 2010 featuring Rik to number 1 this week. :p
