Last night, 6/3, about 9p, two helos were sighted flying at low altitudes
(300' AGL), high speed (for a helo) over Wilbur By The Sea, FL. This is
south of Daytona Beach and north of Ponce Inlet between the Atlantic
Ocean and Intercoastal Waterway. The reporter, who is an ATP rated
fixed-wing pilot, former USMC fixed wing jet pilot, observed the helos
and described them as "dog fighting." Navigation lights on but no other
lighting. Flying lower than cell towers in the immediate vicinity and
passing less than 100' from each other while maneuvering. No confirmed
make of the helos but described as smaller than a typical H-60
Blackhawk, Seahawk, etc. No markings due to darkness. Maneuvers
further described as each aircraft attempting to get behind the other
thus the "dogfighting" descriptor. Flying described as extremely
dangerous/risky.
This all occurred over heavily populated residential area.
Any clues???????
