Interesting afternoon at Sheremetevo this afternoon.

It seemed to be burning sometime before arriving at the airport but still in full flow on our way out to our plane and was fully 'cabriolet' by the time we left.

Who knows. They say the plane has been stored for a while.

The aircraft landing at 40 seconds does the same. The only difference is with the camera zoomed in so heavily the sensor has trouble with the new brighter part.

The weather in Moscow is extremely hot, sunny and dry now. Nevertheless, the timing is quite suspicious.

They say the plane has been stored for a while.Depends what you mean by "a while". The aircraft in question was in revenue service up to the end of January this year.

Doesn't look like B-777 oxygen mask hose fire.

Last time in the air was 24th of Jan 2014. Stored at SVO since.

Sounds like an insurance scam to me. How convenient.

Reminds me of the BA classic that got "mortared" in Kuwait back in GW1

What a great pity. I flew on its sistership RA-96011 last year, and it was a most pleasant flight. While very dated inside, it felt spacious, powerful and quieter than I'd imagined it would. I suppose the IL-96's days with Aeroflot are numbered.

I understand that the IL-96īs days with Aeroflot are over since March.

They all are over their 20 yr resource as passenger and seems that prolongation will be not paid by Aeroflot.

The Russians manage to deal with an aircraft fire on ground and keep the airport open at the same time?
LHR would shut down for hours had it happened there.

The Russians manage to deal with an aircraft fire on ground and keep the airport open at the same time? Two possible explanations for that, of course:

i) Even with the RFS resources allocated to the Il-96 fire, there was still sufficient fire cover to handle normal operations

ii) There wasn't, but nobody cared
