Two questions for any Navy mates in the know:

1. Will the current SHAR NAS be decommissioned when the aircraft is retired?

2. Will the same NAS be recommisioned when the JSF arrives in 2070?

If El Presidente Tony B Liar and PJHQ have their way we will be able to close all UK Stations and deploy everything overseas. That really would save a lot of money except they may have to buy a few more tents for us all. Unless of course.........

CAVU,

Last take on this I heard (although I'm happy to be corrected/updated) was that 800 & 801 NAS will take on GR 7/9s, while one from 1. 3 & 4 Sq will disband (to perhaps to re-form on Eurofighter or ASTOR?). Whether the joint OCU will be 20(R) or 899 NAS isn't so clear.

Archimedes - the plan, as I understand from the grapevine, is that 800 & 801 will move to Cottesmore and be equipped with GR9s. Then ONE of the existing 3 RAF GR7 Sqns will disband and the personnel absorbed into the remaining 2 Sqns, which will also be re-equipped with GR9s. 899 will join 20(R) at Wittering - I would guess maintaining the 2 Sqns as seperate identities but sharing the task.
