Yes Rad Alt, those incidents together with this long overdue admition (http://ainonline.com/aviation-news/2014-05-19/singapore-airlines-restricts-a380-cockpits-local-pilots) by them finally means myself, friends and family no longer travel on this carrier, especially with their fierce nationalism and prejudice up the front of the aircraft. Their "glory days" are well behind them now I'm afraid!

Well SQ is mostly Locals now who I might add have always been in the LHS for all their serious incidents even when there were large number of expat Captains.

There are those who maintain that the CVR of the Taiwan disaster is proof that you don't always swear in your own language, but many upper class Singaporeans ("babus", in Singaporean) speak English at home and have it as their mother tongue

The 'Singaporeans Only' policy goes back to ( at least) the introduction of the B747-400 in 1989, it was later relaxed when there were simply not enough qualified Singaporeans to crew the fleet, the airline was expanding rapidly and took delivery of 52 -400 aircraft.
SIA is the national airline and it has always been their policy to put their own Nationals first, if you look around the world you will see this is not an uncommon policy. Singaporeans comprise people of Indian, Malay and Chinese ethnic roots, possibly some other ethnic backgrounds too, I flew with SIA on the -400 for ten years and I think your fears are groundless.

Their Flight attendants and service standard have remained consistently high, globally for a long time now. This is why they were the only carrier my Grandmother flew on while alive and where other airlines could learn abit (I won't mention the fact that they go through 52 courses of >20 new flighties a year though)
The most operative word of yours though is: flew... Sadly, the "halcyon days" of working there are no longer! Singapore has changed dramatically these last 5 years, for the worse... so unless you're still in Singers, don't ever say my "fears" are groundless.

I flew 777's for SQ for a number of years. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I found the standards to be generally very high and the "nationalism", and national pride, where it occurred, was by and large justified.

Of European expat background, I encountered few difficulties. The same could not always be said of other expats. Maybe the militarily structured organisation did not appeal to all.

These damm asian airlines run by asians and flown by asians!!!! how is this even possible. Airlines should only be run by Western Europeans/North Americans/Australians and even more important the flight decks should be exclusive to Western Europeans/North Americans/Australians. It certainly is not fair to have nationals running and flying airliners in airlines like Qantas, Air France , British Airways, Lufthansa and any major US carrier as it could be more open recruitment of non nationals. It's even worse if nationals run their own airline(SQ) and actually make money doing it. How could this happen? I am sure Singaporean passport holder will be given a fair go at Qantas, Air France, British Airways, Lufthansa and any major US carrier. None of this carriers mentioned have any accident record to mention of . How do they do it.... make money and operate so safely that there is no recollection of any incidences.

One article is "copy/paste " , the other is basically an excerpt , all referring to the " SIA spokesperson's " one/two sentence statement .
