Hello There,

we have a problem with our GE T58 powered Jet Bike. The FCU seems to inject maximum Fuel during start, indicates immediatly >900°C TOT and fuel is leaking out of the 2 injectors on the burner case. I removed and cleaned the flue flow divider yesterday, that seems to help a bit but there is still fuel leaking out of the two pipes behind the burner case and the TOT is > 900°C during start and some flames are popping out of the exhaust.

Can you help me out with some informations and / or a maintenance manual / Troubleshooting? I am going to remove the FCU tonight, but i am not familar with that type of turbine engine. http://www.forums.amtcentral.com/images/smilies/whoknows.gifhttp://www.forums.amtcentral.com/images/smilies/whoknows.gif

I have no experience on the engine (I'm avionics) but have a couple of questions. Was the engine operating correctly prior to this defect or is this a new installation and you're having problems straight after installation? Have you checked all fittings and connections to ensure they're tight? Is the flow divider purely driven by fuel pressure on this installation? I think you're correct in going for the flow divider first off but that's assuming the engine was operating ok before this defect. Also, have you posted in the rotorheads section as this is a helicopter engine and someone there may be able to help? Good luck with your problem, personally can't think of anything more ridiculous than a turbine powered bike!

Try a thump with a rubber hammer on the FCU!!!

Sometimes a FCU hangs up on shutdown (gives you idle fuel flow rather than starting fuel flow) and the thump will allow it to reset back to normal!!

There is a spot on it that doesn't have anything to break and don't give it a big wack - just a nice solid thump.

Thanks, Mx.

can you please give me the concrete position to knock on?
A picture of the right spot would be nice.

Now THAT is what separates a great Engineer from the good ones. Knowing EXACTLY where to strike the million dollar component with a hammer !!! :ok::E:\

Hi Mirko,

I guess a very good idea would be to contact this guy: https://www.youtube.com/user/AgentJayZ He's got quite some experience converting and operating T58s in non-aviation applications (jet boats) and may be able to help you.

May I ask about a few points:
- What type of fuel you're using?
- Have you checked the igniters yet? Are they set up correctly (also check the gasket and the spacers, you will need a manual for this though)?
- Are there any clogged fuel nozzles?
- Do the flames appear all around the exhaust or are they concentrated in certain areas (this may indicate that some fuel nozzles are clogged or partly clogged, while others are oversupplied)?
- Are you running the engine with a locked power turbine or with a loaded PT?
- Do you get satisfactory RPM on start-up (from the starter)?
- Are the IGVs functioning normally?

I've done some testing of T64 engines, which are not quite the same, but still similar. I'd suggest you get yourself a manual. The GAF T.O.s are usually quite good, maybe you can get hold of some Ex-Bundeswehr Huey T.O. Good luck!
