View Full Version : Fiji A330s and SYD - what gives?

Not too long since the embarrassing (and expensive) nose wheel damage event while landing in SYD (and even more embarrassing return to NAN before anything was done about it), I just watched as FJ911 flared early on 34L and then floated for about 1000m (meters, not feet) before finally banging it down just before intersection L.

Is there a training/experience issue over there?

What about the notion of a go-around when things aren't going to plan? A Virgin B737 did the right thing and gave it away not long before Fiji's arrival.

Any inside info from the expats who are over there?

That is quite a distance to float, about 1/3 of the runway.

Id imagine the majority of their crew are new to the big bus?

Shouldn't make any difference what aircraft they are on, familiar or not. Floating that far down the runway, if it's true, illustrates poor decision making.
