Hey kids!
I am currently crew on the A380, flying internationally out of Sydney, Australia. I have been there for about a year now, and before that I had flown for three years on the 717, Dash 8 and BAe146. I know it's not a huge career, but I consider myself pretty experienced by now, having been endorsed on several aircraft and dealing with a large array of passengers, classes, ports and situations.
I love the flying I do now, but like most of you I am sure, I've got the travel bug bad, and even though I fly internationally, I don't get to 'see the world' as much as people think I do. I currently only go to 4 destinations, and one of those destinations I've only been to twice in twelve months :(
So the adventurer in me is considering working in the US. I'm also considering the UK, but I think I'm leaning more towards the US. Googling for a while the other night while on slip, I searched which airlines were hiring in the US, and noticed Delta was one of the only ones hiring at the moment. I'm not saying I want to do this tomorrow - in fact I'm thinking roughly within the next 12-18 months I might make this life change - but hey Delta came up on my search.
Is there anyone on here who is cabin crew at Delta? Could you give me some details about it all? Bases, slips, pay, crew, destinations, experience v routes/bases assigned, rosters, scheduling, culture, training, and pretty much anything else you can think of? I imagine there are not many Australian crew working at Delta, so I don't expect you to be able to answer any questions about how I get the right to work in the US, but I think I can figure that out myself. I know I am eligible.
It'd be a huge leap if I were to even apply, much less if I was actually successful but I think I am up for the challenge...and the adventure that'd come with it. I already moved across the country to a city where I knew no one just to start flying on the A380, and I never thought I could do that, but I have, so why not this?
