At a recent RAF Leuchars visit, I noticed that one of the 1(F) Squadron Typhoons carried the wasp nose insignia which appeared on Plt Off A V Clowes Hawker Hurricane during the Battle of Britain. When operating the Harrier at RAF Wittering, I am told they also had the emblem on one of their aircraft then.

My question is whether the emblem has appeared on any of the other aircraft types operated by1(F) Sqn during their history?

Lower down the Beaufort Scale, they certainly appeared on 1 Sqn Hurricane MK1s;http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8f/Pilot_Officer_A_V_%22Taffy%22_Clowes_of_No._1_Squadron_stand ing_by_the_nose_of_his_Hawker_Hurricane_Mk_I_at_Wittering,_O ctober_1940._CH1570.jpg

They're both 12. Different nomenclature for different areas.
