View Full Version : Why management is prevaricating.

This is their game plan...

Every day, more and more people are going on bases and joining cx on c scale.

Every day the balance of people with housing tilts towards the minority.

Every day they delay, the more likely they will be able to tie a deal on HKPA and/or basing with 25 year housing that will be railroaded through because of the makeup of the AOA membership.

They're just playing the numbers game. Everyone in the AOA votes for their own interest.

They know that.

If nothing is done to stop them, you can kiss housing goodbye.

Dude the day housing stops is the day I will be leaving.

There aint as impressive companies out there but if you willing to put up with the lesser airlines failings out there, at least you will be compensated better than paying for your own rent, and having to put up with cluster of mismanagement.

Even a breath in the direction of housing, and I would tender my resignation. No bluff! Too many options back in the Motherland.

have you talked to any of these S/Os? Half of whom are supposed to be leaving?
almost everyone of them will tell you about his friends who plan to leave.

"What about you?"
"Aah, well, my wife just got a nice job as such and such, I think we will stay for a while"

sounds like voting with other peoples feet to me.

Agreed, the perception of some of these SO's is quite disturbing and incredible immature. I speculated to one the other day that I didn't think the company would offer more than a 4% rise, and his eyes lit up, he thought that would be awesome! He wasn't kidding. Unreal. If we don't hold up the line, this new bunch sure won't. Completely different perspectives. :ugh:

Step into their shoes...

If you had joined with 0h, you too would be (kinda) happy with a 4% raise and no housing.

Wait until they have 4000h and I assure you their perception is going to change.

Too many options back in the Motherland.

Let's hear them, apparently being a CX S/O is the best gig in town.

4000hrs

Once they get 4000hrs, around 10yrs in CX (a useless 3 as S/O) seniority will have a strong hold on them, I don't see them going anywhere, as stated above, voting with other peoples feet and simply enough don't leave to make CX change anything. Housing will be next just enough of a tweak to upset only a few in HK, based crews won't give a ...... they're not coming back!

UAL, AA, DAL, US, SWA, UPS + FDX (shortly), Atlas, Alaska, Hawaiian...all actively hiring and will be for foreseeable future. (i.e.1000's of pilots).

True enough, but given the distinctly low number of American FOs in CX (notwithstanding those on a base), if 50% leave over a few years, I can't see anyone upstairs getting especially worried.

More of a threat to EK, in my opinion.

As for SOS intending to leave; that's all well and good, but to where? Australians have nowhere back home to join, Europeans the same, Canadians the same... Not enough Americans to raise an eyebrow, so that leaves the ME.

Many won't leave one overseas job for another, without substantial remuneration increases. The ME doesn't provide that. OK, they'll put you in a flat in a compound, but that won't be much of a draw. The big pay rises are in the form of Chinese contract gigs, which, generally seek out captains.

I'm sure to get back home, some Americans will apply for US positions, but if it's not DL/UAL/AA, you'd be crazy in my opinion. Career progression elsewhere is hugely stunted or the job is rubbish, from what I see.

Good luck to you if you take the plunge, though.

Is management really prevaricating, or did they turn up to discuss Pay, only to be met by the NC discussing Pay and Rostering?

Personally I think the NC is responsible for dragging this one out.

I think you are onto something.

I imagine the company were ready to discuss a modest single digit pay deal and modify the RPs to reflect the new AFTLs. They were greeted by a NC saying, we want a multi-digit payrise, a complete new pay structure based on a negotiated ratio of pilots to aircraft, guaranteed minimum hours per month, a rig system and a PBS where everyone gets the roster they want.

I might be wrong, but how would any of us know if that wasn't the case. The picture I paint contains ideas promoted by the NC in past 6 months and the latest update told us nothing as to what the NC has been at the table negotiating for.

Kept in the dark and feed on billsh!t springs to mind.

You might be right.

One thing is for certain - the GMA and her team are a ****e-sight smarter than anyone in our NC.

Consequently they are paid more, because they are worth more.

The NC are being schooled as a result.

You're kidding, right? The last time anyone mentioned Cathay and impressive in the same sentence, big twins were still a centerfold. Who are we kidding? Anybody with the youth, skills and experience to land a job at home certainly won't be coming here.

Impressive? Cathay? Says who? You crack me up and I want whatever you're taking.

For the record, United Airlines is not currently hiring due to training constraints. Otherwise, the US has quite a few choices.
