I can't find any online site that will give me a quote for LON <-> KRT. Either they've never heard of KRT (eg Expedia) or they say "we can't legally accept bookings to this destination" or they say "we can't find any availability on this route".

Apart from a couple of sites which quote BA/Emirates via Dubai at £2k per person, which is not within our family holiday budget.

So why isn't anyone selling the London / Cairo / Khartoum route at the moment? Have the Yanks bombed something we haven't been told about? Or have the airlines all chickened out of these routes on the assumption that they're going to be bombed soon?

Lufthansa fly 3x/week via Frankfurt. BA certainly used to have a connection via Nairobi, using Air Kenya for the final leg to KRT.

Can't find anything particularly cheap, but at least

will let you book on line. Various options, such as Lufthansa via FRA, Saudi via Jeddah or Rihad, Egyptair via Cairo or Royal Jordanian via Amman are all £950 + depending on dates.

This site also quotes direct fares on Sudan Airways (stopping in Paris outward and Cairo inbound) for £954 in December, but these have to be booked with the airline.

Don't think you'll find and £200 apex fares on this route. Good luck.

Use the online booking engine to complete an itinerary and then it will price it for you.

Don't forget that most web based booking engines use 'published fares' you will get a better deal through a travel agent.

There's a reasonable chance that if you hold out until next year, a major US carrier, Air Mobility Command, may be opening up a hub nearby. Provided you're happy to travel economy and straddle bombs, helicopters etc, you should get a reasonable deal :p
