Just watched it.

I know there is quite a bit of debate and flame war going on about the program.

But I just can't help but feel poor bugger about that big bull. I don't blame him for having a go when he can.

Well Seaworld and the like never really appealed to me mainly due to being a diver and seeing the like in the wild including Orca. So its not lost them any custom.

But the whole thing stinks to me.

I also felt quite appalled when I saw that poor sod of a whale shark as well in Dubai just swimming round in circles. It just looked wrong compared to the ones I have seen in the wild.

I can't really see any educational value either.

I saw it about a year ago and found it thought provoking. I've never been a fan of captive cetateans, and it helped to confirm that opinion. I've read the various rebuttals from Sea World (and lately Bindi Irwin :ugh:) but none of them won me over.

I can't really see any educational value either.
Agreed. IMO they're a circus under another name.

I can't really see them being able to release them either or even put them in an ocean pool.

They have been excluded from the wild disease exposure from since they were captured or born. No wonder they die off quite quickly once released. They have 20-30 years worth of disease mutations to take on. Sounds like they nearly permanently dosed up on antibiotics and other meds anyway.

Yet the wild ones live to over 100 with never a drug in sight. Although I do suspect they might have some under water herbs they chomp on its just we don't know about it.

I suspect the gene pool as well is getting quite inbreed as well as that bull has been use for 50% of there population. Now going back to age 14 year old biology even I can remember that its not sustainable.

Is this the programme I watched a few weeks ago?

If so, it's the only one in memory where I couldn't watch any more after they took the youngster away from its distressed mother.

I wanted to kill someone on that mangement team.

The young whale shark in the aquarium in Dubai was released back into the sea with a locating device. It was not in captivity very long.I saw it and also felt it was a shame that it was swimming in circles - with an escort of what I think were cobia.
