I've got a general question that an avionics tech should be able to answer re ACARS normal power up and normal shutdowns.

In a typical ACARS unit, fitted to say a B777-200ER, when the unit is powered down by the normal button sequence, does the unit sent a shutdown message to the ground station, or does it simply click off without messaging ?

What do you mean by powered down?
I'm not sure it is.

Powered down as in end of flight at the gate. It would have sent a 'brakes' message however when everything is shut down including electrics, would it sent an automatic "Logging off" or similar message before it shuts down ?

cant really be answered, as with most things the airline could programme what it wants. why would you have it set to do what you have asked ?

Seems a very similar thing has already been asked? (http://www.pprune.org/questions/536121-acars-shutdown-question.html)
