'New Environmentally Sensitive Program Debuts on China's Largest Airline

GUANGZHOU, China, April 24, 2002 - China Southern Airlines (NYSE: ZNH) (HKSE: 1055), the largest airline in The People's Republic of China for the past 23 years, is turning ¡* green.

"Green is the symbol of spring, of hope, of life. China Southern Airlines believes in furthering the harmony between man and nature," said Mr. Wang Changshun, President, China Southern Airlines, adding that, "our airline is working tirelessly to create clean and comfortable travel experience and to provide a wholesome in-flight meal service in a zero-pollution environment for our passengers."

Mr. Wang said that China Southern Airlines has registered it new service brand - Green Cabin - for its new pollution-free, in-flight cabin environment.

With its new broad Green Cabin service, passengers will recognize China Southern Airlines sensitivity to the environment and the social responsibility the company has embraced to do its part to protect the environment.

the airline has created an all-new logo for its new Green Cabin service, featuring a vigorous tree under a cabin-like arc. Elements of the new Green Cabin service will cross all facets of the airline's in-flight service. China Southern Airlines will set an international standard for a pollution-free, in-flight service, including:

Creating a clean and cultured in-flight cabin ambiance;
Food and beverage service served on-board to meet or exceed all International hygiene standards;
China Southern Airlines pledges to use only environmentally-sensitive cups and catering utensils;
Video programming and commercials about environmental protection will be part of China Southern Airlines' in-flight entertainment service (in both Chinese and English).

So all that environmental talk for some cups and utensils. It's a start, but hardly justifies all the "green talk".
