Was a bit bored and came across this entertaining write-up in biz journal regarding the dismal state of aviation affairs across the big pond:

How miserly airlines created their own pilot shortage - The Business Journals (http://www.bizjournals.com/bizjournals/blog/seat2B/2014/02/commuter-airlines-face-pilot-shortage.html?page=all)

Well worth the read considering the managerial dynamics ring familiar.

Yet still the kids apply for jobs when (including their own investments) they are paid way less than minimum wage amounts. What would you do as a Manager if they just keep coming?;)

... but those "kids" do not make the operation safe, and airlines know it. They rely entirely on existing experience to keep the operational safety margins. Wait until these "kids" are in the left seats of wide bodies, that's when the fun begins.

And by fun, I mean smoking holes in the ground.
