Hello everybody ...

Was wondering if anybody can help me with identifying the aircraft in the picture. Not the type, but the number on the tail: to which country does the identification number on that helicopter belong? Who uses identification code with just numbers and no a letter in front?

Except 62-01805 appears to be missing from the UH-1 production list.

My guess is South America - maybe Argentina or Bolivia? Colour scheme is typical of Presidential flight or somesuch..........

Well I've found a possible match..


There's a UH-1H stored at Ozark-Blackwell Field with the serial 73-21805. If that had spent time on loan to another countries Airforce, it might have been painted as we see in the photo.

The paint scheme is reminiscent of Helicol, which has done contract work all over South America since 1955. But I don't recall ever seeing one without civilian Columbian registration.

Thanks everybody so far for their input. I followed some of the leads but couldn't come up with a conclusive answer.

The Helicol color scheme is similar but different. Also the machines have extensive writing on the tail side(s) and Columbian registration (I found some pictures from the 1960s on the company page).

The notion the picture has been taken somewhere in Latin America (rather than Texas) sticks with me. However, I couldn't find the number in any database, except the Ozark-Blackwell field's listing, which unfortunatly does not provide further information.

If this is – as has been suggested – a US Army helicopter, I still have to find prove for that.

And please, if anybody knows something not yet mentioned ... I am eager to hear it.

The Joe Baugher website lists 73-21805 as (c/n 13493), it also lists a sister ship in the batch as 73-21765 as (c/n 13453) with a note saying that it was "apparently destined for Peruvian Police." Plus two others that I saw.

Also, the Wiki page on the Peruvian National Police, says they had 23 UH-1s at some stage.

It's a bit thin perhaps, but maybe someone has a list of tail numbers for Peru from the 1970s / early 1980s.

Yeah, that looks a promising livery, good find!.
(I found another source that said the serials post-1984 were changed to alpha-numeric format AAA-999, or in this case PNP-313.)

A list of tail numbers of the period would still help the OP.

Also, the Wiki page on the Peruvian National Police, says they had 23 UH-1s at some stage.In fact the number is higher than that - around 40 assorted UH-1s have been delivered to the Peruvian Police over the years, all ex-US Army and including some whose previous US identities are unknown.
