When I got my new tablet I was astonished at the proliferation of adverts on my favourite sites and decided to install AdBlock. Alas no longer available from Play Store so had to get it from the online site after changing my settings to permit other sources. I was able to install okay, set my wifi to go to port 2020 rather than 8080, and surfed on happily.

But all was not perfect. I know some sites 'prefer' AdBlock not to be used. I had serious problems on YouTube, very slow and difficult to use. F1 Official has a way of disabling AdBlock, and will disable it again if you re-enable. Somebody somewhere managed to kill the AdBlock ad reference file, and I had to use an alternative until the standard one reloaded. All rather much of a hassle.

Now I've simply given up, have uninstalled AdBlock, and am putting up with the adverts. Wimp, or what? :confused:

Its no surprise really that you're having issues with AdBlock.

Its not magic, it just relies on definitions... given the resources available to the advertisers compared to the limited resources of AdBlock, its no surprise that sites are staying ahead of the cat and mouse game.

According to The Register there are rumours that some of the big boys may even be about to do deals with Adblock. (I suppose Adblock has to have some means of making money.)

To avoid this you could try disabling the 'allow some non-intrusive advertising' feature:

On one of my computers it was already disabled but on a different and more recent install it was enabled.

I am sure the 'boffins' on here will know more about it all. ;)

I'm sure someone will write Adblock Plus Plus to counter that.
However this is a good thing as getting the advertisers to pay a premium for access to my screen's real estate is beneficial to me, the web site owner, and even the advertiser. Otherwise these sites end up looking like some porn site with everyone scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Well hypothesized; they have, it's called Adblock Edge. :cool: Blocks ALL ads and no sell-out possible.
