500th Virgin Blue Cabin Crew member completes emergency training

Virgin Blue celebrates a major milestone today when its 500th Cabin Crew team member successfully completes an Emergency Procedures training program.

The hands-on training, delivered by Airservices Australia’s Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) staff at Brisbane Airport, is one of the courses for new Cabin Crew recruits to equip them with the skills to effectively manage on-board emergencies.

During the course, Cabin Crew receive practical fire extinguisher training, navigate their way through a smoke filled room wearing a smoke hood, are trained in basic fire fighting techniques and are made aware of their roles and responsibilities during an aviation emergency.

The course also introduces new Virgin Blue crew members to the Fire fighting staff at Brisbane airport, nurturing the relationship between the airline and Airservices Australia.

Virgin Blue spokesperson, Amanda Bolger, said, This specialised Emergency Procedures course is a vital component of our overall Cabin Crew training schedule and we are committed to making sure our crew have the best training possible. They are thrown in to real-life scenarios, get practical experience in dealing with them, and to us, that hand-on experience is invalauble.

Virgin Blue has announced bold plans to expand its operations and Trevor Rogers from Airservices Australia says the ARFF is geared up to provide Emergency Procedures training to 200 additional Virgin Blue cabin crew in coming months.

The accelerated expansion of Virgin Blue means our team will be conducting more training sessions and we are delighted to respond to the needs of our airline partners Mr Rogers said.

He continued, It’s a great arrangement for all involved as the Cabin Crew acquire valuable Emergency Procedures skills, Guests on board Virgin Blue flights can be assured the crew training is top notch and Air Services benefits in terms of its professional links with industry.
