A BALPA jobs update which I have indicates. .that the total no. of type rated pilots appearing on the market since September is 1,122 pilots

Crikey...

It doesnt include the 800 jobs being created by . .Ryanair ...

Indeed, sobering figures.

I am coming to the conclusion that the UK industry is going to recover sharply this summer to continued strong growth. Which is good news.

However the exact nature and size of the labour pool is tricky to quantify. I was waiting until 6 months from Sept 11th to make a big post on this. At the time I said things would be clearer in 6 months time and perhaps a delay in big time training expenditure might be wise. I stand by that advice.

Its only another month..

How many pilots are employed at present? (Fully employed, part time employed?) Anybody got an idea of the totals?

I would like to know how many pilots. .listed in the SRG stats with ATPLs . .hold multi-crew ratings.

There are over 10,475 ATPL holders (not frozen). .on March 31st 2001.

Type rating totals are not available.

I think we should be told

Sorry if the answer is already there- but I'm slightly confused- can anyone confirm

a) the total number of commercially licensed pilots are there in the UK at present (10,475?) and

b)how many of these are employed/ unemployed (1122?)

Am I correct in my assumptions?

Thanks

.....as a reminder to people these new jets for Ryan Air , and hence the 800 jobs, aren't until end 2003/2004. Correct me if I am wrong.

Though, if the JAR exam failure bubble moving through the system coincides with the up curve in recruiting, it will be like nothing you've seen before....

Just guessing but would that be the significant down turn of people qualifying due to the mental exam system introduced a couple of years ago?

Does the figure of 1122 pilots appearing on the market mean pilots that have been made unemployed or pilots that have registered as looking for work (ie they are still employed but are looking to move companies)?
