View Full Version : Monitoring CPU temperature on ASUS motherboard?

Have an ASUS motherboard with CPU Overheat Protection. It goes into autoshutdown if the CPU gets too hot [hasn't happened yet]. The BIOS is always monitoring the CPU temperature and I can read the CPU temperature from the startup menus OK. Does anyone know if there is a program available which can monitor the CPU temperature from the Windows environment as you're working? Just for interest sake, really, as I'm not planning on overclocking. In fact the CPU has been set to throttle back if the temperature gets up. It's winter here at present, though, and I would like to know what's going on in there when running at 'highway speed', before the hot Aussie weather returns.

Spooky,I was just gonna ask the same question, seems daft to have to shut down and reboot to bios in order to see whats going on.

Have you checked the CD that came with the Mb? :p I have an Abit Mb (or 2 or 3) and there is a utility on the Cd which runs in windoze to check the CPU temp , fan speed, case temp ....
Asus also make what they call an iPanel which fits in a drive bay and presents all these things real time if your Mb has the header to take one.

Just did a Google ....Look for "Asus PC Probe".... that should do the trick

The Pentium4 Asus boards have this feature, I do not use AMD so cannot tell.
If you have LM75/LM78 chips, have a look here (http://www.tweakpc.com/Cpu.htm)

just found an even better one...here (http://www.tweakpc.com/Download_files/mbm50.exe)

This is a very new ASUS A7V266-EX board, using an AMD Athlon XP 1.8 processor, actually 1533Ghz, you know the one. ASUS probe software wasn't on the install CD, so I downloaded ASUS Probe V2.15.07 [the latest version] from the ASUS website, thanks MAx, for the reference. However, when I installed it it told me I had no LM75 or LM78 chipset and that it couldn't find the "LMC Control procedure". Seems like technology has outsmarted itself, once again. It's certainly outsmarted me. Thanks for all the help so far. Any other ideas?
[Nice links FL310. Still thinking about whether to use any generic third party software. If ASUS has gone out into some completely new architecture that might not be wise. Don't want to break anything]

OK, problem solved. Apparently Probe V2.15.07, the latest version on the ASUS website (http://www.asus.com.tw/download/mbdriver/mb-utility.htm) and touted as being "for all ASUS products" is not recent enough for my hardware. Now that I've installed Probe V2.15.08 it all works just fine. There ya go! :)
